It’s an exciting game for those who signed up for Netflix a few years ago. The series, based on a series of novels by Caroline Kepnes, returns for its third season on Friday, October 15. With the latest episodes ready to be watched, fans are already curious about the future of drama in the broadcast service.
The second series ends with Love Quinn (played by Victoria Pedretti) stating that she is pregnant with Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) as she is about to cut his throat.
He killed not only his ex-girlfriend Candace (Ambyr Childers) but also his neighbor and partner Delilah (Carmela Zumbado) in an attempt to protect his privacy, according to Love.
Not wanting to leave her unborn child with Thando, she agrees to marry him and move on to Madre Linda town.
They may try to fit in with other people but the newlyweds end up bringing trouble on them.
From the caption, it seems Joe is already looking for a way to escape his new life, as he has already moved on to his next love.
The description reads: “Joe is committed to his new role as husband and father, but fears the deadly rush of Love.
“And then there’s his heart.
“Could it be that the woman he was looking for all this time lived in the neighborhood?
“Breaking a cage in the basement is another thing. But the prison for the perfect wedding image with a clever woman for your cunning?
“Yes, that would prove a very complex escape.”
The hit / black comedy “You” is back with a bang, following the murderous couple Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) and Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) as they live in the basement with a baby boy.
Season 3 of the Netflix hit, now broadcast, forms the first two seasons with psychiatrist Joe – who considers himself a genius and a lover – as he prepares women he thinks is “He is.”
In the first episode, her infatuation with Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and her involvement with her talented New York friends ended in murder. Season 2, which saw Joe move to LA, sparked that trend: when he first became obsessed with troubled chef Love Quinn (Pedretti, “The Wrath of Bly Manor”) their story didn’t end with him being one of his victims. Instead, he revealed that he was just as wireless and bloodthirsty as Joe was.
So, no wonder, being a new parent ‘on the banks outside of San Francisco, surrounded by tech-savvy businessmen and lovers of health, doesn’t mean Joe and Love’s home happiness this season.
Although Joe announces his desire to be a better man than his wife and child, he soon returns to his old adventures – starting to get more and more interesting about their neighbor, Natalie (Michaela McManus), while his simple voice carries harsh judgments against everyone he meets. For example, when Joe and Love met a local “blogger’s mother”, Sherry Conrad (Shalita Grant), she described her work to the viewer as, “A mecca of humility and self-esteem, prioritizing as a hard-working genius.”
For her part, Thando feels meaningless in their new life and leaves without her brother (who was shot at the end of Season 2), understanding how to connect with potential new friends including Sherry. Supported by his family’s finances, Love and Joe found themselves in a new world of luxury, surrounded by wealthy neighbors who said, “I’ll bring you a Pinot. From my friend’s wine. They print their wine barrels in 3D. ”
Joe is never as smart as he thinks he is, but he still has enough handling that can make an unpleasant show go down smoothly and easily. Badgley is still well-played, playing Joe as a dark-skinned man in his famous “Gossip Girl” character Dan Humphrey, while Pedretti puts an inconsistent spin on what could be part of a clichéd femme fatale in the hands of less talented. While in the past it was a cat-and-mouse game between unfortunate Joe and his girlfriend, Season 3 becomes an act of balance between Joe, Love, their ability (or lack thereof) to adapt to marital life and new places, and their habits (yes, including murder).
You, ”which started on Lifetime before moving to Netflix, is well-known – last season, the broadcaster said 40 million homes watched, or anyone knows what that means – in part because it combines mental arousal with the imitation of rom-tropes. Since both types are large in size, it is not surprising that the combination works. (It is also helpful to be part of Greg Berlanti’s oeuvre producer). Still, it shows that the environment around scary characters like Joe has to walk a fine line between not liking their actions while injecting enough fun so that the story doesn’t become tragic. Season 3 sticks to the arrival.
“You” is a show that can be formulaic, or fall into the trap of liking its hero just a little bit to follow the results (see: “Dexter”). Season 3 alleviates the potential pitfalls and brings a signature combination of pulpy satire and darkness while introducing new ones. Not surprisingly, the fourth season has already been revived.
